Personalised Medicine and Neurological Assessments

A new addition to the services provided at the our Centre now includes more depth and capability to provide a wide range of Neurological Assessments. This is achieved through collaboration with Brain Resource Company, a Sydney based company and an IBM Business partner, which provides advanced, personalized measures of brain health.

Established in Australia two decades ago, and with ex PM Paul Keating on the Board of Directors, BRC is uniquely poised to drive the worldwide movement towards Personalised Medicine.

BRC is a founder member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Centre for Biomedical Innovation, is involved with researching up to 1 million Americans in collaboration with the Alliance for Aging Research in America, and will launch a cooperative venture with the HSA Group in Australia in February 2007 to assess 100 000 aging Australians.

Brain Resource Company has developed a new approach to integrating behavioural and biological measures of brain function. Behavioural measures are provided by tests of General and Social Cognition, and Biological measures are from tests of Electrical Brain-Body Function, Brain Structure and Genetics. These tests are brought together in the first fully standardized brain testing platforms, readily set up anywhere in the world and unrivalled in their power, objectivity and scope to deliver a coherent picture of brain output for diverse clinical, sport, wellness, recruitment, career and other applications.

As a result of this Collaboration, at the centre we now offer WebNeuro assessments.

WebNeuro is a fully automated series of validated neuropsychological tests that reflect a Personalised Cognitive Profile of both general cognition and emotion function. It is ideal for monitoring cognitive change over time in the same subject with reports showing the extent to which cognitive performance has improved. It takes only 40 minutes, making it a good choice for quick subject screening, especially young, elderly and impaired populations (6-90 years) unable to tolerate lengthy assessments and those individuals who may be geographically isolated. WebNeuro is used in a variety of applications including peak performance training, executive recruitment, age-related memory decline, ADD treatment monitoring and maintaining Wellness. Upon completion of the tests, participant data is transmitted via secure Internet connection to the Brain Resource Central Analysis Facility. Performance is compared to Brain Resource's large, normative database; the world's first total quality controlled international database with thousands of subjects and over 350 journal articles demonstrating its validity. The objective and individualised reports help doctor, trainer and individual to fine tune cognitive performance over time. A Brain Resource report helps us determine your particular cognitive, behavioural and neurological strengths and weaknesses, to design a treatment strategy tailored to meet your specific needs, and to objectively evaluate the effectiveness of treatment protocols.

We perform this test at the start and end of treatment as well as every 20 sessions of neurofeedback. The WebNeuro assessment helps our Psychologist make informed decisions about your psychological health and treatment outcomes.

How it works: Your initial interview with our psychologist is followed by an EEG assessment, questionnaires and the WebNeuro assessment comprised of: A comprehensive Cognitive assessment measures everyday thinking skills like memory, attention, language, reaction time and problem-solving. A series of tasks are presented, for each one you will be provided with simple instructions and an example.

Some tasks are easy and some are hard, there is no pass or fail. A personal history questionnaire may also be undertaken.The results are compared to others (the same age, sex and years of education) who have completed exactly the same tests, a report is generated for our psychologist.

Our psychologist will use the objective evidence from the Brain Resource report, along with other clinical tools, to inform diagnosis and treatment options.

Who will benefit from WebNeuro assessment? Sports people, talent identification for sports and corporate recruitment, ADD and ADHD, learning problems and dyslexia, anxiety and depression, mental health problems, child behaviour, performance issues, stress and burnout, memory (dementia and Alzheimer's), head injury and stroke, epilepsy and other neurological disorders.
